Hockey as a recreational sports

               Hockey game
    Hockey is both team and field game played with hockey stick an a ball. The game was originated from an ancient greek Remans persians as early as 541Bc. The game is usually played on horse back with  a stick and a ball, the rich people played their hockey on horse back known as poco.
     Basic skills and techniques
1. Hiting: hitting is used in hockey so that the ball may travel or move fast and along distance
2. Stopping: This is the techniques use in causing the ball not to move.
3. Dribbling: Dribbling in hockey is the way of controlling the ball so that you can move it in any direction without your opponent dislodging or taking the ball off you.
4. Passing: Passing is the act of getting the ball safely to your team mate using any of the type of strake e.g the hit, the push, the flick and the scoop.
5. Push: push means moving the ball forward with the stick in such a way that the ball is neither hit nor raised from the ground.
    Rules of hockey game
1. Raising the hockey stick above the shoulder while playing is obviously dangerous.
2. A player should not hit the other side of the stick.
3. The game is stared by a center pass.
4. At the start of a game all players must remain in their own half and also when a goal is scored.
5. At a penalty stroke all player except those taking penalty must stand outside the 22.90m line.
         Officials of hockey
1. Two umpire: umpires is the overall judge of the game just like a referee.
A. His decision is final
B. There are two umpire that control the game.
C. The umpire indicate by blowing a whistle when a foul is committed.
2. Time keeper: He keeps record of the time and notifies the umpire at the end of each half.
3. Scorer: He records the player name and jersey number
B. He takes note of the substitution of player.
C. He takes care of the score sheet.
D. He records the goals scored by each team and the player that score the goal.

     The hockey pitch or field: The hockey pitch is similar to the football pitch. It is rectangular in shape, it is measured in 91m long and between 55-60m wide. All lines in the field must be marked with white colour and they must be 75m wide.

    The sticks: The hockey stick is often named typically. The English and Indian type. The stick should also have a rounded and flattened blade which should be between 90-91m long.
    The stick is made up of shaft and blade. Generally the stick is made up of the following parts.

2. The rubber grip.
3. The slice.
4. The heel.
5. The blade.
6. The toe.
